"A. M. Kray has delivered a story that will hook you from the start. It's a short read, so plenty packed into such a small package. I downloaded this last night, and I was planning to read it then. I’m glad I didn’t, because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have slept because this was read start to finish in one sitting. At one stage, I was so immersed in the story that a particular act of violence involving an eye actually made me flinch! This is definitely a deviation from the prior books I’ve read from this author, and in a way, it makes it so much better for it. I knew from the blurb that it would be dark, but this was so delightfully dark that I just wanted to see how unhinged it could get. How I felt while reading… Absolute devastation - as a twin myself, I can just picture the raw devastation that Ivy would feel at the loss of Jameson. And then the unfolding of the horrors that she had to face over the next few years. I’ve never been truly invested in seriously dark characters. In this case, there are a lot of unalivings, but whoah… these actually had me going… meh… it happens - well deserved, and now, who’s next?"

"This is a beautifully written story of heartache and redemption. I'm torn to pick a favorite part of the book between the support and friendship Violet found in the distant village she was sent to or William's arrival and efforts to win a place in her heart again. So much happens in their lives while together and apart which we get to watch. William learns to stand his ground in his cold and lonely life as he rejects the false role he was dragged into. Violet and Lily, their daughter, on the other hand are protected and nurtured in a new home however humble it was. The details of their simple life and the growing friendships with the secondary characters were a joy to read and gave this story so much warmth. My compliments to the author for taking the time to share these small but essential scenes. I think they were my favorite. We also had William facing the truth about himself which showed us a man in great pain. I was so happy when he finally went after his family, but I was also happy that Violet didn't make things easy at the same time. They had so many things to work out and overcome but in the end they got their HEA. I love a good betrayal and we definitely got that here too. His parent's actions were despicable, his words to Violet during the betrayal scene brought me to tears and left me wondering if I could ever forgive him. But, that is what the rest of the story is for and I definitely changed my mind about him. Enjoy the read, this will be an definite re-read for me when I want both heartache and warmth."

"Where to begin… Firstly, thank you, A. M. Kray for the opportunity to read in advance. Every time I see one of these up for grabs to review, I gobble it up, because I know it’s going to be an amazing read. What you’ll get: Angst Pain Betrayal Widower Manipulation Abandonment Secret baby Redemption Check your triggers as there are a few key ones that may be particularly distressing This story delivered. What an emotional journey! You will get a little background which makes the story all the more heartbreaking. The first and subsequent meetings of William (future Earl of Ashford) and Violet (daughter of the stablemaster and cook) set it up, and even though you know what will happen due to the rigid rules of Victorian society, you can’t help but want something different. William, after making promises that we know he can’t deliver, shoulders the weight of family duty, abandoning Violet to marry a woman of ‘breeding’. He is open about the fact that he does not want the marriage, and has absolutely zero relationship at all with the wife (the ONLY thing making him redeemable to me). However, in the meantime, he abandoned Violet and his unborn child… His mother works behind the scenes and sets Violet up as a widow and she exiles her to another location. This was broken into 4 parts… and honestly, each section pulls you in a different direction. It’s an emotional journey where you will feel heartbreak, rage, joy and pure happiness. Violet is understandably closed off, and oh my… made the hard decisions based on Lily’s happiness and not hers. She’s such a beautiful soul… Lily was a delight, a sweet little girl and absolutely adorable. William… I struggled. Even though we had his thoughts throughout the story, I couldn’t help but wonder what was truly going through his head, because he seemed to react to everything rather than plan. He was redeemable (reasons above), and his actions to make reparations and to make things right were truly astounding. The acceptance from everyone regarding the circumstances was beautiful, highlighting the nature of the family that had been formed. Despite the challenges, she/they had gained a wonderful extended family… A quick read, it's very easy to immerse yourself. I only stopped because it was 1am and I needed sleep. Needless to say, I may have neglected a few chores in the morning to finish it off…."

This story was written so eloquently, that I never forgot what genre I was reading, but the pacing, angst, and character transformations were exactly what I look forward in a romance. I’m a high angst junkie, who grew up reading Jane Austen, and this book was like catnip to my inner Elizabeth Bennett. "This is the second book I've read by A.M. Kray, and already she is becoming one of my most favored authors. This story was intense, excruciating even, with its focus on the unforgivable sin committed by the MMC on the FMC - his betrothed - in response to a perceived betrayal against him by his betrothed's brother. From the first page I was hooked, and as the story unraveled my heart raged against the MMC's cruelty and broke for the debilitating impact it made on the FMC. This story had consumed me, as I readily devoured page after page, eager to find out how the MMC was going to realize that the perceived betrayal against him was borne out of lies spewed to him by his own flesh and blood, and how he was going to atone for all of it given the gravity of his mistakes. I knew that if I was going to keep loving this book, the groveling had to be convincing to me, that I would be convinced of the MMC's remorse and fervent efforts to make amends. And oh, this book delivered that gloriously! This is one story I know will be hard to forget. It's one of the few stories I've read where the couple's HEA was a long and arduous journey to complete healing and forgiveness, thanks to a truly remorseful partner who has committed to becoming a far better man than before."

"I didn’t expect to get so pulled in, but this story caught me completely. What stayed with me the most was how the author showed Sorcha’s pain without spelling everything out. You feel it in the quiet moments and in the way she moves through the world. She never talks about her suffering, yet it still hits hard. That kind of quiet strength always affects me. I’ve read many historical romances back in the day, but this one felt different. It didn’t just make the past look pretty. It treated the time period with real care. Sorcha teaching other women how to protect themselves felt natural and believable. It reminded me of how much women had to fight for in the past and how often their strength was pushed aside. Calum, on the other hand, was hard for me to like. His choices caused Sorcha a lot of hurt, and it took me a long time to accept him. Some readers may enjoy his growth, but for me it took a huge change for him to finally understand what had always been right in front of him. I did like that the story didn’t excuse his actions. He had to work for his redemption, and that made it feel real. I also enjoyed the way the story moved between different points of view. Seeing events through several eyes made Sorcha’s journey feel deeper. Her strength becomes even clearer when you see how others see her and react to her. This book felt like slipping into another world for a while and by the end, I felt that Sorcha finally received not only love but real respect, and that made the ending feel just right."

"Faithless Vows is one of those books that quietly gets under your skin and stays there. What moved me most was not simply the romance, or even the extraordinary grovel, but Alannah’s journey. Set against a time when women were so often expected to endure, obey, forgive, and make themselves smaller for the sake of family, marriage, reputation, and duty, her struggle felt painfully real to me. I found myself completely in sync with her thoughts - the confusion, the patience that is tested beyond its limits, the gradual realization of just how much of herself she has given away, and finally that deeply powerful moment when she understands that she cannot keep allowing herself to be used simply because she once loved someone. Her strength never felt artificial or convenient; it was born from everything she had endured, and watching her reclaim her sense of self was every bit as compelling to me as the love story itself. And then there is Ronin. His journey from the man who believed he could make choices for both of them to the man who has to confront the wreckage of his own choices is what made the redemption feel earned. The grovel is exceptional because it isn't a quick apology or a convenient declaration of love — it is a painful reckoning with consequences, with the understanding that wanting someone back does not mean being entitled to them. I loved that the story never loses sight of choice: the choice to leave, the choice to remain gone, and, perhaps most importantly, the choice to love again only when that choice truly belongs to you. A.M. Kray has handled these difficult emotions with remarkable sensitivity and strength. You can feel the thought, care, and sheer emotional labour behind this book in the way every wound, hesitation, confrontation, and moment of tenderness unfolds. There is heartbreak here, but there is also healing; there is betrayal, but there is accountability; and there is love, but not the kind that asks a woman to disappear inside it. This was an incredibly emotional read for me, and Alannah stayed in my thoughts long after I finished the final page. Faithless Vows reminded me why I read romance in the first place; well, not merely to watch two people fall in love, but to witness what they are willing to become, and what they are willing to fight for, when love has to be chosen rather than simply assumed. A beautiful, emotionally intelligent, and deeply affecting story of a woman finding her way back to herself and a man learning that earning her heart is very different from simply having it. ❤️‍🩹"
